When examining a tool or service, most people immediately delve into what they like and do not like. That’s a mistake, particularly when taking a look at among lots of services in a specific classification. In this case, book summaries. Blinkist Cancel Trial

The principle of a book summary itself has some particular benefits and downsides. Naturally, these will transfer to Blinkist and any other book summary service. You can’t really blame a particular company for them.

Let’s very first take a look at those, so we can better pinpoint the unique benefits and drawbacks of Blinkist later on.

Pros of checking out book summaries:.
You’ll avoid all unnecessary info. This is particularly useful for books that only make one or a few good points. It likewise assists you prevent bad books completely.
You can find out about more and various subjects faster. Instead of being stuck on one book about meditation for a month, you can check out a summary in a couple of minutes. Then, you can leap to the next mindfulness book or a new topic completely.
You’ll likely remember more without bearing in mind. Because book summaries center around facts and brief ways to illustrate them, you’ll likely leave from one summary with 3-5 things you’ll remember. It’s difficult to effectively memorize anything if you read a complete book without taking notes.
Cons of checking out book summaries:.
You’ll lose the majority of the story and humor of the book. This is bad, because it makes checking out enjoyable. Depending on how much you connect with the story, it also assists you remember a lot, even if you may have to keep in mind.
You will lose out on concepts and spontaneous insights from really excellent books. The very best books strike hard with every page. It’s impossible to move all of their understanding into a summary. Some books you just have to read completely to get the most out of them.
Due to a lack of context, you may translate facts the wrong way. Sometimes, a summary mentions an idea one method, whereas the context of the book sets it up in another. But because that context is now missing, you’re analyzing the idea differently and thus get an impression the author didn’t want you to have.
You are now trusting not simply the author of the book, but also whoever composed the summary. You lose if the summary writer does a bad job. They may fail to include a crucial story and so you will not keep in mind a vital reality.

Again, these apply to all book summaries and the services that supply them. With those in mind, let’s turn our attention to the Blinkist app user experience.

How does it feel to use the Blinkist app?

Downloading the app is free. When you open the app for the first time, you’ll get a brief tutorial of how whatever works.

One of the first things you’ll see is that the app only has 3 tabs for you to pick from:.

Discover. This is where you can explore their library and find brand-new titles.
Library. Here, you’ll have access to your personal selection of books.
You. This is where your settings and saved highlights are.

This is fantastic, because it makes navigating the app and choosing what to do truly easy. Let’s take a look at the individual tabs.

Blinkist extremely heavily marketed at me, so I decided to give it a go. Blinkist is an app that has lots of features, they have audio books, they have podcasts and original material, but the primary selling point, the thing that they advertise, the thing that makes them different from other audiobook apps, is that they claim they can provide you the main points of any non-fiction book in 15 minutes. Essentially, they are marketing themselves as an alternative to reading books or listening to complete audio books by, and I price quote here from their website: “Read or listen to the crucial ideas from best-selling nonfiction titles in 15 minutes” So the idea is that you get their app, you register for it, and you can listen to as lots of books as possible that are condensed to 15 minutes, and they claim that you will still get the essential concepts and an understanding of what the book is about.

I was dubious, I am a reader and even though I do not read much non-fiction, given that I much prefer reading fiction, I do read some of it, some of the books that I saw advertised on Blinkist as 15-minute summaries, I just could not envision being condensable into 15 minutes. Since we are talking about some actually huge books, about heavy, intricate concepts that I simply didn’t think you can squeeze into 15 minutes. Okay, so I have actually got the Blinkist app in the Google Play Store and I’m going to set up that. Blinkist Cancel Trial
