This intensive course creates an experiential learning community where teachers work together through art and music making, dance, poetry, and dramatic enactment to develop new, effective strategies for teaching math, science, history, literacy, health/physical education, and social studies. Participants will learn assessment tools to evaluate the use of the arts in working with cultural diversity in the classroom and increasing students’ motivation to learn and communicate effectively.
Performance Wellness Seminar - Performance-related stress and communication difficulties can undermine academic success in students of all ages. As a preventive measure, “The Performance Wellness Seminar” is designed to offer teachers a deeper understanding of the implications of stress in academic performance, as well as practical tools for allowing the body-mind to become a more resilient “instrument” in the face of stressful situations. Training in body-mind awareness techniques, cognitive restructuring, and anger management will be provided, along with a number of clinically-proven creative arts therapy techniques for facilitating performance mastery and enhancing communication skills and emotional intelligence for both teachers and students. Special attention will be given to utilizing the above techniques in working with special needs children.
